Open: A Memoir of Faith, Family, & Sexuality in the Heartland

Open is a story of coming out as a gay man while working as a Baptist youth minister in Texas. Open is a story about a typical Christian evangelical family in the American heartland that must grapple with the child who challenges their understanding of the world and disappoints their expectations. Open is a story set on the front lines of the struggle for LGBT equality in the 21st century.

Open explores the universal question of how we as humans live true to ourselves when the network of relations we are part of pushes back against us. Open is the story of how one man succeeded—living openly as a gay man and Christian minister in the American heartland.

Scott’s first book will be published in September 2018 by Literati Press.  You can order a copy here.

  1. I am so excited and proud of you Scott. Placed my order and it will be my birthday gift to me in September. I wish that Dad Cich was alive to read your book.
